Road Food – July 15, 2011

Eating while on tour can be a real challenge. Some days, it’s all fast food or truck stop diner fare. Other days, it’s chain restaurants. But there are days when the food is fabulous! I love finding local food that’s worth telling you about.

Unfortunately, I’m also extremely busy when I’m on the road. So it’s not easy to blog about my finds. Nonetheless, I though you might like to see a few pictures of the food I’ve been enjoying lately.

Frybread Taco

A Native American take on the taco. I got this one at a fair in Utah.

Peach Cobbler

Although I do love chocolate, there are times when a good cobbler is just as good. This was one of those times.

Grilled Chicken and Asparagus

Our booking agent John Raymond and his wife Laura prepared this wonderful dinner for us on our first night in Utah.

Cheesecake at MacKenzie River Pizza Co.

MacKenzie River is a new favorite place to eat. Awesome pizza, pasta and sandwiches. And of course, great desserts!

The Thunder Burger

The Burger Dive’s Thunder Burger is the hottest burger you’ll ever have! Jalapeno, habanero and ghost peppers will create thunder in your stomach for sure. I managed to eat the whole burger, but failed the challenge when I couldn’t stomach the fries.

Beef Pot Pie

We found a great little Irish Pub in southern Louisiana. Just one of the homey dishes – this beef pot pie was awesome!

Perfect Ribs at Coushatta Casino

Gumbeaux’s was the Sports Bar and Grill at Coushatta Casino Resort, Kinder, LA. Their ribs were so good, I didn’t even sauce them!

Gumbeaux's Ribs

Close-up of Gumbeaux’s ribs. YUM!!

Curried Shrimp

I found a great Thai restaurant in Nashville while there for pre-tour rehearsals. Their Curried Shrimp were amazing. The only blemish on the experience was the waitress trying to sell me her special tea.

Until next time… play with your food!
