Garlic Chive Dip

Manly Kitchen Garlic Chive DipWe’re now on Day Five of Dip Week here at Manly Kitchen. So far, I’ve posted my Eleven Layer Mexican Dip, Smooth and Creamy Bean Dip, Avocado Cream, Green Chile Cream and Manly Salsa Verde. I’m posting a new dip recipe every day this week, all the way through Saturday. Then on Sunday, I’ll post a baked, layered dip to finish off the week with a bang. You can add also these, and this one, and maybe some Manly Guacamole, then call all your friends. This time around, you can have them bring potato chips, pita chips, or even plain pita.

Let me tell you: garlic rules! I use it all the time, from meat recipes to mashed potatoes. Soups and dips… and on it goes. And when it comes to potato chips, I love a good sour cream dip. Most of the recipes, however, are for onion dip. And that’s cool. But put some garlic in there and it just blasts it into orbit, it’s so good.

To be honest, this dip wasn’t part of the Night of Six Dips that I’ve talked about in this series of posts. It wasn’t until after I promised a week of dips, however, that I realized I had already offered recipes for some of the dips I made that night. Not wanting to repeat, I decided to dig through my recipe files and come up with a couple I haven’t posted yet. And that’s why you’re about to experience this creamy slice of heaven. Let’s get going!

Manly Kitchen Garlic Chive DipIngredients:

2 cups sour cream or plain yogurt
3-4 garlic cloves
1/3 cup finely chopped chives
1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
salt and pepper to taste (optional)

Instructions:

Put sour cream or yogurt into large bowl.

Finely mince garlic and add to bowl.

Chop fresh chives (you really want to use fresh, not dried) and add to bowl.

Add lemon juice and blend thoroughly.

If desired, add salt and pepper to taste. Honestly, I don’t add either, but I know some folks like it.

Serve immediately or refrigerate overnight to let everything blend together and get happy.

Manly Kitchen Garlic Chive DipNotes:

I normally use all sour cream for this dip, because I don’t often have yogurt in the house. But I’m told it’s healthier with yogurt, so feel free to use that instead of sour cream.

If you’re going to make this the same day you eat it, make it early and let it refrigerate while you’re doing everything else.

To offer a nicer presentation, you can toss some more chopped chives on top of the bowl of dip just before serving.

This dip is great with chips, but it’s also wonderful with veggies, so make sure you put some of those out for your healthier-eating friends.

Go grab yourself some potato or pita chips and dig in! And don’t forget to…

Play with your food!
